Sunburst platy and Dalmatian molly.
im not positive the dalmatian IS pregnant. She is fat and stays in-between/behind my filter and heater. She is not very energetic.
I have a breeder suctioned to the side of my 55g tank. I was wondering when i should put them in it?
I do not know how far along in their pregnancies they are. How long can they stay in the breeder if they have not delivered the fry yet?
Thank you to whoever helps!
ALSO, the dalmatian doesn't have a gravid spot because he has such opaque color.
I'm not sure if the platy has one. He does have a large spot that looks like his whole stomach is black.
Here are the pictures.

Hi Kolleen! I'm not sure the dalmatian is pregnant either . Platys are naturally very chesty fish and as far as I know only the wild varieties have gravid spots. As for the breeding trap, I recommended that you do not use it. Placing your female in a confined space such as a breeding trap can be extremely stressful and may cause her fry harm. What I find works well is to separate the females into an all glass aquarium with some of the filter wool. Tease out the wool and it will act as a hiding place for the fry.
You should be able to place your pregnant females into this homemade breeding box without stressing them as long as water conditions and pH is the same as your original tank!
Good luck!

Its best to have a place the fry cant hide in after being born they go to bottom of tank for cover but sometimes at the top if there is lots of floating plants. Most fry will be able to hide from bigger fish if they can in plants.I find having a a hatching tank is good,as long as water is the same as from community tank.
