Secondly your fish will become egg bloated if there's no male for her to breed with. Bettas cannot release eggs, therefore they slowly die in pain if not bred. You might want to find a different kind of filter (i.e. sponge, undergravel), or you could try making the flow less strong by attaching the neck of a plastic water bottle onto the filter pump.
