I don't feel ready to try breeding the betta, nor am I up to keeping 2 tanks. Will he be happy living his life without any female company? He seems happy so far and I have had him for several months. He recognizes me and comes to the front of the tank whenever I sit and watch them all. He knows when I am going to feed him too, he's smart! I named him Rubio because he's RED. sheilakathy 2012-10-07 Answer no. 1 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=one-male-will-he-be-happy-#2 Usually they are kept separate unless breeding them even the female has to be removed from the breeding tank the male does it all. A lot of animals lead solitary lives except when breeding occurs. He should be fine had them before in a desktop tank and a community tank. I remember an aggressive female swordtail who tried to bully mine he put her in her place with just a fight display. Indeed, a male betta will attack any other betta unless it is a female who is spawning. Therefore, he will probably end up attacking and maybe killing a female unless she happens to be in season.
