I would like to know as to what it is, and how does it affect my fish. original post: March 5, 2007, 4:16 pm anonymous 2008-05-02 Answer no. 1 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=multicolored-stuff-in-my-fish-tank#2 You basically have some algae growth in your tank. If you have green algae, then that will not harm your fish, if you have “multicolored algae” as you said, then it sure can be harmful for your fish. Peter anonymous 2008-05-02 Answer no. 2 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=multicolored-stuff-in-my-fish-tank#3 Hi Peter, Could you please tell me as to how can I clean this stuff up? anonymous 2008-05-02 Answer no. 3 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=multicolored-stuff-in-my-fish-tank#4 Just clean your tank like you normally do after regular intervals. In addition, algae growth is basically something that you cannot prevent. It is quite normal for the algae to grow after every two weeks of cleaning up, but if the growth rate is really fast, then your aquarium might be exposed to excessive light or the water in your aquarium might be of poor quality, just check these things out and one more thing you should do is, leave some of the algae in the tank and this will slow down algae growth to some extent. Martin/////// anonymous 2008-05-02 Answer no. 4 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=multicolored-stuff-in-my-fish-tank#5 Well, you have got all the info to cleanup your tank, but I would just like to suggest that while cleaning your algae, please do not use the cleaning pads that we use in the kitchen because it has fungicides that can kill your fish and one more thing that I would like to mention is that that regular cleaning of your aquarium can stress your fishes out and can harm the environment of your aquarium. Warren anonymous 2008-05-02 Answer no. 5 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=multicolored-stuff-in-my-fish-tank#6 Warren is correct. We cannot just always stick our hand into the tank to clean it. That will spook the fish. Fish under stress are more vulnerable to disease. We still need to clean the tank anyway, just less frequently. Warren is also right on the kitchen cleaning pad. Beside the fungiside some scouring pads have particles that can detach from them during cleaning. You will not want your fish to swallow the particles.
