Bogwood is the most common wood available, this should be boiled before use or soaked for a few days else it will release tannins into the water. Some keepers like this effect especially when setting up a blackwater aquarium. Mopani wood is a really dense wood that is quite heavy. This also can release tannins so should be treated the same as bogwood. This is usually more expensive than bogwood but has really nice shapes to it Driftwood as the name suggests is usually collected from the beaches and needs to be waterlogged before it will sink in the aquarium. This can contain salts from the sea so will need presoaking before use in a freshwater aquarium Chopped wood obtained from live trees is becoming more popular but this will contain saps so it will need to be dried out for a couple of months before use. replica wood is also available to buy ,normally created from resin and can look effective when used but I must admit I am not a great fan of it. mickey 2008-05-08 Answer no. 1 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=different-wood-for-the-aquarium#2 with driftwood how do you waterlogg it. does that mean boil cause that would get rid of the salt too. pedroman 2008-06-01 Answer no. 2 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=different-wood-for-the-aquarium#3 I have some driftwood in my set up and the only way I can keep it down is to weight it with some rock.I prefer to go with bogwood especially as I want the tannins to leach into the water mickey 2008-06-02 Answer no. 3 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=different-wood-for-the-aquarium#4 Boiling will get rid of the salt and eventually sink the driftwood. It may take about a week to sink if you boil it for a few hours each day then let it soak overnight. It may take longer but your best bet will be to weigh it down with something heavy. meliss_cole 2008-06-03 Answer no. 4 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=different-wood-for-the-aquarium#5 to be honest I am thinking of removing the driftwood as I want to create some form of archway using mopani wrapped in wire netting to hold loads of java moss in place.Just one of millions of ideas I daydream about lol mickey 2008-06-03 Answer no. 5 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=different-wood-for-the-aquarium#6 thx for the info, i dont want o go buy wood cause its pretty dear. but i go camping at island allot and thre is lots of driftwood so i'll take some home next time pedroman2 2008-06-05 Answer no. 6 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=different-wood-for-the-aquarium#7 happy wood hunting. even after removing the salts, some wood will still want to float, just weigh it done.If starting a new set up it is possible to attach it to the tank floor with aquarium sealant or milliput mickey 2008-06-09
