She started out looking like she lost the ability to stabilize herself for a few days. Then she started swimming sideways. I've taken a look at her body and it looks fine no white spots or anything weird. She's been like this for about a week if not longer and now her body is totally bent because it looks like she's exerting so much energy to swim and move around. I thought that she was a gonner when I first saw her this way, but she's struggled through it and her body is totally bent and she faces downward. It looks terrible and I feel so bad for her. i don't know what is wrong. It does not look like the other guppies are affected by it. Can someone help? chunli76 2008-05-22 Answer no. 1 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=guppy-is-swiming-with-her-tail-bent-and-facing-downward-#2 Have you tested the water? It might be some disease caused by continuous presence of higher NO2 concentration for instance. Lost ability to swim normally can also point to the dropsy disease. Also problems with swimming can be caused by skin worms. If your guppy is having problems with breathing, then it can be gills worms. I'd say that you could separate her and cure her with some strong antibiotics. They're recommended in cases when man doesn't know the disease. BTW, it can be also the age... When fish get older, they are not so immune as they were before. Regarding your question about affecting other specimens: Separate her and you'll be sure that you did your best in order to prevent others from being infected. I actually don't know what could be the disease of your guppy, so maybe it isn't infection. But separating the ill specimen is recommended anyway. jan 2008-05-22 Answer no. 2 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=guppy-is-swiming-with-her-tail-bent-and-facing-downward-#3 can you give us a post of your water parameters, have you added any fish lately etc. could be the age of the fish,we just need to know your water is o.k. before we can proceed further mickey 2008-05-22
