I just recently went and bought 3 small tiger barbs and a small rainbow shark. I fed them before I went to bed, and then when I woke up the next morning all of the barbs were dead. The water temperature was fine, so I took a water sample to the fish store. They said that the nitrate levels were a little high, but not high enough to kill the fish. So they sold me 3 more barbs. I got them home, and then the next day 2 of the barbs were dead, and the other is still alive, but barely. The shark, however, is fine. The barbs did not look like they had been attacked, so I dont think the shark killed them. The second thing is that these barbs could be too ill or weak. How long did the transfer take?
