I just recently went and bought 3 small tiger barbs and a small rainbow shark. I fed them before I went to bed, and then when I woke up the next morning all of the barbs were dead. The water temperature was fine, so I took a water sample to the fish store. They said that the nitrate levels were a little high, but not high enough to kill the fish. So they sold me 3 more barbs. I got them home, and then the next day 2 of the barbs were dead, and the other is still alive, but barely. The shark, however, is fine. The barbs did not look like they had been attacked, so I dont think the shark killed them. The people at the fish store havent told me anything useful, so I thought I would ask some of you. isuckatlife 2009-02-02 Answer no. 1 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=advice#2 It is possible that the water in your aquarium is very different from water in the shop. The second thing is that these barbs could be too ill or weak. How long did the transfer take? Anyway, in my experience many shops do sell very weak specimens and they (fish) don't live too long after transfer... jan 2009-02-03 Answer no. 2 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=advice#3 could be a bad batch of fish but what were the readings for ammonia and nitrites? mickey 2009-02-03 Answer no. 3 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=advice#4 Rainbow sharks can harass fish all night without leaving any sign of an attack so they could of died of stress, seen it happen b4. Greenterror 2010-01-15 Answer no. 4 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=advice#5 A one month old tank might well not have cycled properly. I'd hold off adding any more fish and invest in a test kit. Make sure the levels are all at proper levels and add fish slowly so the bacteria can adjust with the bioload. feelfab 2010-01-26 Answer no. 5 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=advice#6 Be careful of all LFS period. irwin id 2013-08-05 Answer no. 6 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=advice#7 A one month old tank might well not have cycled properly. It takes a good 3 months to have the tank recycled properly. irwin id 2013-08-06 Answer no. 7 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=advice#8 have patience and you will be rewarded in the long run with your fish. irwin id 2013-08-17
