Breeding bettas is relatively simple, you need a warm tank, 27C or thereabouts, floating plant/leaves/polystirine cup. plenty of hiding places for the female (the male will nip her) well conditioned fish (keep them seperate) place the male in 1st, when he starts to blow bubble nests (bubble groups in a corner or under a floating object.. make sure teh filter current isnt too strong, and use a sponge system for the fry's sake) add the female in either a glass jar (allow a little air for her to breath) or in a small partition, untile the male starts to display and she swims with her head facing downwards in a sort of dancey way. allow the female out, and watch closely, he will nip and chase her before mating (they often look dead during the actual mating, dont worry) if the nipping is too excessive or the male is uninterested after a while make sure to remove the female, or she will be killed. (its best to make sure you are around to remove the female after mating anyway) make sure she is kept warm and fed well, she will b stressed. The male will look after the nest until the fry are free swimming (best to remove him about then). only feed them after the eggsacs are gone, or they will not eat it and water quality will suffer. move into a grow out tank when ready.
