Water temp 77degree`s F, nitrate lvl 10, nitrite 0, and ammonia 2.0. Fish are fed once a day. I have no idea why my ammonia lvl is so high,i do regular 10% water changes every week and a 50% change once a month with a 50% sand suction. I use Prime during water changes.So my aquariums lvls are good,Except my ammonia lvl,could anyone please give me some advice as to how to get my ammonia lvls down to 0? Ty. I really wouldnt recomend getting chemicals in your tank which practically is making the water worse, Are you adding too much? try getting a different brand and maybe that will help, Or let the tank cycle naturaly with no chemicals inside other then water conditoner(dechlorinator)(if you use tap water) Good Luck! irenewhite 2010-01-03 http://forum.aqua-fish.net/?topic=ammonia-issue-s#6 Maybe do a complete clean and try plastic plants. Then run it for a couple of days before adding fish. You can leave them in a bucket with an air stone for a day, or if you have a spare tank set it up. Also, if you already use a filter with wool, how clean is it. It won't work if it is clogged up. You can safely replace your wool and leave the rest of your filter very regular but rinse it in tank water, not chlorine. Remember!! You can't have a clean tank if your filter is dirty. You should be able to set the tank up and have perfect water, but you need the right filter. Also how fine is your gravel, if it is really big, you are not allowing adequate bacterial growth, and also large particles are getting stuck before fish get to it. Maybe try a sandy gravel or a finer pebble, also if you clean your gravel too much you are destroying the good bacteria in it that breaks up the waste. Just a thought. Just remember, cleaning too much is not always good!! I would just try a fresh start, something is not compatible in your tank and it might be a simple thing like gravel size?? dirty filter?? May be replace everything in your filter but keep a sponge so it has some bacteria with it, how old is the filter??
