Siamese fighters prefer soft acidic water with a very low current. Add some floating plants to the tank and don't bother with the airstone its not needed at all

Hope this helps Biggrin

siamese fighters like medium sized tanks, they need a heater, light, gentle filter (they arent keen on strong currents) They like hiding places, and tall plants that they can rest on near the surface. the water doesnt need an airstone because they take in air as well as water, so even a low oxygen level is ok, although not recomended, obviously. Make sure you feed them a range of foods, not just normal tropical flakes in order to keep their colours, try to make sure plants/gravel arent too sharp as their fins can be very delicate, and can be easily infected. I would recommend silk plants and ornaments should be picked carefully. Make sure that if younplan on breeding or keeping this fish in a community tank, you read up very carefully as death can occur in both situations if not handled correctly.

enjoy your new fish!

I have heard that siamese fighting fish like the natural tannins (brown tinted water) which wood gives off in their tanks again make sure it isnt rough, and I wouod recommend buying it from a pet shop rather than finding/making one because of bacteria, viruses and fungus etc. From what you have said though, it sounds like you have a good set up. remember siamese fighting fish like it hot though! check the temperatures in a book or on the internet, as the normal temperature range for tropical fish can be a little bit low for them. If kept warm they are much less likely to get sick.

I agree about the tannins but there are several ways of adding this to the water. With a Siamese I would use almond leaves or Banana leaves to re-create this effect. Add floating plants to the tank to create shady areas.
