Hello ,

I really love bettas and finally i aquired a few males and females. I put the females in one tank in which they are happy and healthy. Each male is kept seperately.

I introduced a male about 2 days ago to the spawning tank and kept the female in a jar outside the tank. And my crowntail betta male kept on displaying all day long untill i moved the jar inside the tank then after a day i saw the male building up a bubble nest and really going crazy for the female , althought the female im using for him was already a little bit eggy when i got her from the shop anyways so yesterday morning i release the female with him ,,, he continued displaying and building up the bubble nest , he was gentle with her in the beginning then he started chasing her very fast even in the plants so i put her back into the jar which was kept inside the aqarium thinking she needs more time . This morning since i gotup all i see is the male resting at the bottom of the aqarium away from the female i got really worried and released her and now that they both are free in the tank he dont chase her and dont even go where she is .... i really dont know whats wrong please help me.

Yes this is my first ever time to try to breed fishes and after doing a sufficient research on the internet i decided to breed bettas who your help would be highly appreciated thanks.

How old are they? How big is the tank in which you keep them together?

Bettas don’t breed everyday... Just as other species. You cannot expect them to breed "on demand". Anyway, answers to the above-mentioned questions will help me giving you more precise answer Wink .

Hello Jan,

I see that u r the site admin and still u took out time to read/answer my post which is highly appreciated.

I got these Bettas from a shop here in Kuwait(where i live) and they were imported from Singapore and i choosed these out of 150 fishes ,,, these were finest , complete fins and very attractive and active. And also i really trust this shop and its owner as i know him for a very long time.

Tank Size = Height 30cm X Width 25cm X Length 50cm.

It’s a plain glass tank with a lid on top.

All i wana know is why this very active and in heat male turned into a fish who always sits at the bottom of the aqarium . He’s not interested into mating , displaying or even enjoying in the tank even if the female is free inside the tank.

Female is still active. But this guy who even made half of his bubble nest is now just not there and this only happened after i put back his female into the jar while she was free for some time and he was chasing her alot.

Thanks again for your help .

Mohammed

Hi Mohammed Biggrin ,

Basically it’s a matter of choice. I kept bettas and they were breeding only when they wanted. You know, it is difficult to make them want to breed. Anyway, here are some simple tips...

1) Water stream should be very slow.
2) Water changes stimulate breeding too.
3) Increasing KH makes miracles! KH is usually increased by water changes (as KH normally decreases in aquariums, but new water have KH of 4 at least - in general).
4) Food sometimes helps. Blood worms especially.
5) Also make sure pH is about 7.

This should help, although no-one can guarantee you results. These methods are tested by myself successfully Biggrin .

Good luck!
