Hello everyone! I am new to the fish world. And the forum world actually. I started with a Betta and love him so my BF got me a 20 gal setup for Christmas. Right now I have it all set up and ready for fish. I just picked up 2 baby Emerald Cory's. I noticed when we got home that one of them is missing an eye! Poor little guy. I guess I will be more careful before leaving the pet store from now on. If anyone reads this soon after I post it.......how long should I leave my new fish acclimating in the bag before I open it?

Thanks all and Happy Holidays from Maine!

Hi there, glad you have joined the fishy world.
I normally float the bags for 20n mins before slowly mixing the water and then add the fish to the tank after 40 mins

I usually float them for 15 minutes and slowly mix the water and then leave floating for 5 more minutes and finally put them in the tank.

That is far too quick to add the fish to the tank and will result in either pH shock or give the fish stress. It can actually take a fish weeks to fully acclimatise to a tank so always keep a close eye on them foe the first couple of weeks to make sure they have settled o.k.
