It sounds funny, but I guess somebody must have encountered the same problem. It is quite a common problem. Your aquarium water might have excess amounts of dissolved organic material, parasite presence, or a stray electrical discharge. After doing any aquarium related work, just wash your hands thoroughly with a good disinfectant soap and get your tank water cleaned up as soon as you can.
