Hey all! I have some kind of reddish brownish algea in my tank... It looks like I over fed my fish on bloodworms, however I know I didn’t. I know it is some wast. But I am not sure how to cure this problem. I am not going to do a water change once a week. SO what do I do? The one thaught I have is that the build up is on the opposite side of the tank my filter is on... SO maybe a power head to help circulate still water.. Other than that I don’t know. Well I fugured it out I think... I have a 55G tank and a 60G filter... SInce this is basically my first big tank I had no idea that you should double your filtration numbers.. And in a bigger tank like that the use of power heads is a helper too. So I just added a couple of power heads shooting towards the filter from the other side of the tank. I think I will add one or two more... It seems to help so far. And I am also thinking of getting some in tank filters rather than the ones that hang on the tank. If you have any ideas on what brands, types or where to get the filters and stuff let me know... my email is titostats at yahoo dot com.. thanks for your help

Hello ,
Atman filters are worth it. AquaEl are good too. Maybe you could measure your pH and water hardness levels, so we would be more wise about how to help you. In my experience algae grows too much in waters with low or high pH levels. Test kits are inexpensive.
By the way, sometimes algae just stops growing after some time. It is caused by tank’s age. How old is it? Especially newly set-up tanks are heading against algae problems. My tanks aren’t exception.
Algae stopped growing after 2 months and after I added powerful filters, they sucked every floating algae which led to situation that amount of algae decreasesSmile. Good strategy.

thank you all for your help... got it about the spamburglers... all my levels are pretty good... ph and water hardness are a little on the high side but are still safe.. i should check out them filters, do they have websites, or who carries them???

I thaught you were suggesting a specific filter company... But I think I solved my issue... 2 small powerheads and 1 medium powerhead circulating the water, currently only one whisper 60, but I am putting another one in... Thanks again
