Sad I have spent all day trying to figure out what is wrong with my guppy. It is a female and was recently in a tank with about four other and larger fish. One of the fish started biteing her fins off so I removed her from the tank. At this time she is in a small fish bowl but her scales are falling off and her fins look diseasesed. She also rests on the bottom of the tank and then for no apperant reason will just swim around crazily. Im afraid she is very sick. My parents just tell me not to do anything about it and just let it die but I cant. Im thirteen so I cant do anything very expensive. If it possible I would love for you to reply back with an inexpensive cure, if not I can find money. I will do whatever you think it will take.

Hi emilyk,
From what information I can gather on the internet, it sounds either like ich or stress. In either case, raise the water temperature by a few degrees and add Aquarium Salt (DON'T use table salt as it could kill your fish!). Aquarium Salt is available at most pet shops and is inexpensive ($7.00 per 62 oz at PetSmart). 1/2 tsp per gallon is a general rule.
Don't worry, your guppy should get better. Ich is not fatal, and with clean water stress should mend itself.
Good luck!
