there are three basic marine setups used nowadays but which one should I go for?
I decided in the end to go for a reef setup using aquacultured corals, and added a few fish for movement,
Some marine keepers are quite happy to concentrate on a reef only setup, water flow is the key here. For a successful reef at least 20x volume is advised for the corals and Live rock,so decent powerheads are essential. It is better to split the flow over 2 or 3 smaller ones and aim these at the front glass to create some turbulence.Avoid dead spots at all costs as these can become nitrate traps.
Use good quality LIve rock to act as your main filter.
With fish only ocean rock can be used to great effect but my personal opinion is that live rock definately looks best.
for any of the three setups optimum water quality is a must.
