hi, i'm new, sorry to just barge in here.
i did a search for feeding issues with bettas and stumbled across this forum.

i bought a betta for my 6 your old son may 16th, his name is Minty, the fish not the son.
and no Minty is not green, he's red...my son named him.

anyways, the little blighter wont eat! i've got the betta pellets, only putting 2-4 in at a time every other day and i actually saw him go up and suck a pellet in and then he spit it back out! everything else just falls to the floor.
he's had his tank cleaned at least once a week since we got him. he's seems pretty happy.
he's been bubbling like a manaic for the last week.
there's a poster of kevin harvick in his nascar orange resese peanut butter driver suit on right behind the tank and all minty does is mostly sit er float and stare at kevin and bubble.
and not eat.

this is my son's first fish, he must not die!

oh and he's kept in a gold fish bowl with a single plastic plant.

How long is this happening (spitting)? If the fish is spitting for more than 7 days, then I'd bet he's eating something.

I fed my Bettas granules from Sera and also Sera Flakes Premium. Or try to give him some frozen food; blood worms should work Wink .

In addition, does the betta have bigger belly than usual? Or anything else what is unusual?

Yes, I am very busy. So accept my apologies since I cannot visit this forum too much. But I'll do my best because I own this website Biggrin .

You are probably overfeeding him. When the fish gets hungry, he should eat! But if more than a week goes by and he still isn't eating, you should consider a medication like Maracyn II. ('Treats sick fish that will not eat'.) Aquarium Salt (DO NOT use table salt as this could kill your fish!) is a stress reducer that I'd recommend before starting on any antibiotic medicines like Maracyn II.
If your fish's body is bloated, he is probably constipated. The most common treatment for this is fasting him for 4 days and then feeding part of a cooked mashed pea. If this doesn't work, 1/2 tsp. of Epsom Salts per gallon of water should do the trick.
Don't worry, lots of bettas spit out their food, especially when they are in a new, stressful enviroment. Try a little Aquarium Salt and keep the water nice and warm (80 degrees Fahrenheit) and he should do fine!
Best of luck to you and your fish!
