My husband and I are fairly new to fish keeping and have had a 180 ltr tank for about four months now and we are doing well. we have just aquired three bristlenose catfish to help with the cleaning !!! we made he mistake of leaving the light on all day, even while we were at work and this we have just discovered is why we were having to clean the glass so frequently. Now we have the light on when we are home form work in the evenings, we were told a maximum of 8 hours a day. This advice is something I have not seen in any of the books or websites I have looked at.

Welcome Tongue Tongue Tongue .

Regarding lighting: Here are cool articles about fishkeeping, just open them:). This, for example, recommends something between 10-12 hours per day: http://www.aqua-fish.net/show.php?h=aquariumlighting.

And some other articles about lighting are these:

And all articles are listed here: http://www.aqua-fish.net/index.php?cur_lang=2&count=no&secured=&section=41

welcome to the forum
I am a great fan of bristlenoses I have 7 in my tank
to give you some help with the lighting, in my planted tank I have the lights on for 10 hours, blues on for another 2 hours and then moonlights on all night,I find this makes for a more natural lighting ,when the moonlights are on the cories and bristlenoses come into their own.
